Wild Girls: The next generation of Women Artists @ Exit ArtBy emily, Section Seal of Approval
![]() Most of the pieces in Wild Girls stick to the feminist art script. You've got your hand stitched canvasses and bedazzled objects symbolic of traditional "women's" work, video clips publicly projecting private daily rituals, as well as fashion shots of period-stained underwear and glossy portraits of older women that beautify aspects of womanhood usually perceived as ugly. Thankfully, Bulgarian video-artist Boryana Rossa comes to rescue us from the confines of domestic commentary. In the video "The Last Valve" she is filmed stitching her pussy lips together while attached to a lo-fi looking bio-feedback machine. Ouch! Yes, it's painful to watch, but it moves beyond defining female and explores what is "human,” through the eyes of a woman as well as a machine. The movie was is billed as an Ultrafuturo project - an "international group which works in the intersection of technology, ethics and human/machine identity." Check it out this wild work at:
